London always has a lot to offer its visitors, no matter what the season, but perhaps never more so than at Christmastime. As the nights are drawing in and the temperature starts to drop, many people are starting to think about their festive plans and Christmas shopping ideas. Why not check out some luxury hotels in London and book yourself in for a festive weekend in the capital? Book your train tickets down in advance and save yourself a packet – spend the rest on your luxury London hotel, some extra presents for the family, tickets to see a West End show or even just a load of yummy mince pies!
Of the 5-star hotels London has to offer, perhaps none are more appropriate for the festive season than The Landmark London, which has a fabulous Winter Garden restaurant, where you can enjoy a traditional English breakfast or scrumptious evening meal during your stay. Take in the beautifully adorned 28-foot Christmas tree while you dine and you can even enjoy some mulled wine and mince pies without leaving the hotel – they’ll be delivered directly to your room as part of their fantastic Christmas offer running from 14th December 2013 to 5th January 2014.
Of course, there are plenty of other things to do during the Christmas period in London. The Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is a wonderful attraction for all the family during the festive season. Simply take in the lights and sparkle or hop aboard one of the fairground rides and attractions, which include a Giant Observation Wheel, carousel and helter skelter. There’s also two circuses to enjoy, plus that famous ice rink. You’ll also be able to enjoy plenty of festive food and drink at the market, as well as pick up a couple of traditional German crafts as gifts.
If you love a traditional Christmas market, then check out the Southbank Christmas Market which is comprised of the traditional wooden huts that you’d find in Germany. You’ll be able to find a variety of different toys and gifts, plus that all important glühwein, gingerbread and other Christmas treats. If you’re looking for some really unique gifts this year, then time your stay with the Designers Makers Christmas Market, also at the Southbank, which is on from the 16th to the 22nd of December and will showcase the work of over 50 British designers.
The Christmas season isn’t just about eating and shopping. There are always more events going on, including one that no Christmas should be without – a good pantomime! No matter which is your favourite, you’ll find all the classic pantomimes going on in different locations around London, and if celebrity spotting is your thing too, then you’ll also spot a few famous faces among the cast! There are plenty of other seasonal shows on too, including ‘The Snowman’ creator Raymond Briggs’ ‘Father Christmas’ in its first ever staged production.
So, whatever you’re looking for this Christmas, get planning early and book yourself a fun-packed weekend in London to really get the holiday season started!
